Lady Eagles upend AUM 57-50

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (Dec. 20, 2007) - A late 11-2 run helped Oklahoma Christian pull away for a 57-50 win over Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) in the South Padre Island Shootout Thursday.

OC improved to 6-4 on the season while Auburn-Montgomery fell to 5-8.

After AUM took an early 2-0 advantage, the Lady Eagles scored 11 straight points and led the rest of the game.

The Lady Senators pulled within 30-25 at halftime, then a 6-0 run capped by a Mallory Yancey putback sliced OC's lead to 40-39 with 9:00 remaining.

But OC responded with eight straight points on a Charlotte Heron layup, two baskets by Kailan DeCamp and a Hillary Duncan putback.

Brittney Kennedy's transition basket and Lindsey Gipson's free throw extended the run to 11-2 and gave OC a 51-41 lead with 5:23 left. The Lady Eagles pushed their lead to 11 points down the stretch and cruised to the win.

DeCamp and Gipson scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead the Lady Eagles. OC's Kennedy and Danielle Cox added eight points while Brittany Moore paced AUM with 12 points.

DeCamp and Gipson joined AUM's Moore and Yancey and Freed-Hardeman's Jana Cross and Kristal Edney on the all-tournament team. OC, AUM and FHU all went 1-1 in the South Padre Island Shootout's round-robin format.

Oklahoma Christian now will break for the holidays before returning to action Jan. 3 in a Sooner Athletic Conference game at St. Gregory's (Okla.).
