Lubbock Christian upset 19th-ranked Oklahoma Christian 57-55 Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 7-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 17-8 overall. OC has lost three games by two points or less and lost another one in overtime at first-place Oklahoma City.
The Eagles trailed most of the game, including a 24-18 deficit at halftime. But the Eagles clawed back to take a 49-48 lead on two Dillon Ripley free throws with 3:20 remaining.
But four straight free throws by Bernardo Rocha and Lance Boxell gave LCU a 52-49 advantage, and the Chaps pushed the lead to 55-51 in the final minute on a jumper and free throw by Marques Baldwin.
Two free throws by Charles Baldwin with six seconds left pulled the Eagles within one, 56-55. But after LCU's Max Eding made one of two free throws, Brady Page was unable to get off a shot before the final buzzer.
The Chaparrals earned their second conference win (2-12) and improved to 6-18 overall.
"We're not making good enough decisions. We're not making the extra pass. We are not making enough plays on offense and we break down occasionally on defense," Coach Dan Hays said. "Right now, we're a very average basketball team and we're getting what we deserve."
