NWOSU Edges Eagles

Fighting an uphill battle, Oklahoma Christian University fell just short, as Northwestern Oklahoma State University edged the Eagles by a 59-57 margin in the Eagles Nest Feb. 19.

Battling down do the final seconds OC guard Brady Page gave the Eagles a short-lived 56-55 lead with 47 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession Northwestern's Taylor Wiebener canned a three-pointer to re-take the lead 58-56 with 38 seconds left.

OC was unable to take advantage of a pair of scoring opportunities and purposely fouled NWOSU's Devin Jefferson with 14 seconds remaining. Jefferson hit the front end of a one and one and OC's Kory Allen scored the Eagles final point with a free throw with only 3.5 seconds showing.

Jefferson was fouled again and missed the free shot. The Eagles' controlled the rebound and Jarred Merrill launched a last shot that caromed off after the buzzer.

Merrill led all scorers with 25 points and 13 rebounds and freshman Charles Baldwin finished with 10 points.

The loss gives Oklahoma Christian a 16-9 record overall and leaves the Eagles at 6-8 in the conference.
