OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (1-5-08) – Oklahoma Christian fell 71-60 to No. 4 Oklahoma Baptist Saturday in Sooner Athletic Conference action.
Jason Taylor led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. OC fell to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in SAC play while the Bison improved to 12-1 and 4-1.
OBU trailed just once in the contest, but never led by more than 12.
The Eagles took the first lead of the game when Jon Jonsson buried a three pointer just 19 seconds in. An Evan Grace trey evened the tally at 3-3 at the 18:33 mark and after another triple from Brian Hill, OBU led 6-3. The Bison would not trail again.
OBU built an eight-point lead before the Eagles rallied with an 8-0 run to tie the score. John Powell's basket at the 7:40 mark locked the game at 18-18.
The Bison then rattled off six unanswered points and outscored the Eagles 14-7 over the final 7:40 to take a 32-25 edge to intermission.
OC clawed to within two twice in the second half, the first coming on a conventional three-point play by Taylor at the 15:33 point. The sophomore took a pass from Jeff Crocker and slammed home two while being fouled to cut the Bison' lead to 39-37.
After OBU jumped back out by seven, a Kyle Tefft two and Chad Endres three pointer again brought OC within two at 44-42.
The Eagles held the lead under 10 points over the next nine minutes, but could not cut the deficit to any smaller than three.
Jeff Crocker's two at 1:46 drew OC within five at 63-58. A late 8-2 charge by the Bison sealed the victory for OBU.
Crocker finished with 13 points while Tefft added nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Hill paced OBU with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
OC heads to Texas for two doubleheaders next week. The Eagles and Lady Eagles face Lubbock Christian on Jan. 10 before taking on Wayland Baptist on Jan. 12.
