OC Comeback Falls Short

After rallying from a 13-point deficit Oklahoma Christian University fell victim to a late run by Oklahoma City University and took a 79-67 loss in the quarterfinal round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament in Lemons Arena March 12.

The Eagles climbed their way back to tie the game 61-all, only to see OCU reel off an 18-6 run in the final 3:25 to take the win. The loss closes Oklahoma Christian's season with a 19-12 overall record. The Stars (18-10) advanced to the SAC semi-finals

The Eagles' comeback bid started with freshman Keith Harris' three-pointer midway in the final period. Brady Page and Charles Baldwin scored and Page followed with a three-pointer to pull within five, 51-56 at 9:15. Page added a short jumper and a pair of free throws and Jarred Merrill went 6 for 6 at the foul line to tie it 61-61 with 3:42.

The Eagles were unable to take control, however and OCU's Eric Tatum ignited the Stars' final run with a three-pointer at 2:23. Jamaal Haymon hit his fourth trey of the game and OCU's Shervon Ceromain's three-point play at 1:02 put the Stars beyond reach.

Merrill led the Eagles with his 23rd double double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Page contributed 13 and freshman Micah Miles had 11 points. Harris had three, three-point field goals for nine points.

In pre-game presentations Merrill received a trophy for his selection as Co-Player of the Year and Kelly Allen received the SAC Sportsmanship Award. Kelly and his brother, Kory were recognized by selection to the SAC All-Academic teams.
