OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 16, 2008) – Oklahoma Christin won for the fourth time in five games on Saturday with a 71-53 win over Lubbock Christian University (Texas).
OC improved to 11-14 overall and 8-10 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. LCU fell to 12-13 and 6-12 in the conference.
A torrential rainstorm outside moved indoors as OC rained down an 11-2 game-opening run on LCU. Jason Taylor scored six points in the rally and put the Eagles up 11-2 with a basket at the 15:20 mark.
The Eagles then used a pair of Taylor free throws to take a double-digit lead at 16-6 at the 11:28 point.
LCU clawed back and cut the deficit to 22-18 at the 6:24 mark, but three straight OC trips resulted in three-straight three-pointers.
Kyle Tefft, David Jackson and Jeff Crocker all nailed triples to give the Eagles' a 31-18 advantage with 4:20 remaining in the half.
OC shot an even 50 percent (13-of-26) from the field en route to a 35-24 halftime lead. Taylor netted 14 first-half points on 5-of-7 shooting.
The Eagles' hot shooting carried over into a 15-2 second-half run that put the game on ice. A Jackson score with 16:29 left upped OC's edge to 46-26.
OC did not make a field goal, but hit 10-of-12 free throws from the 7:26 to 3:45 marks to take the lead to the largest of the game at 67-44.
The Eagles finished the second half 15-of-19 from the foul line and shot 19-of-23 for the game en route to the 18-point win.
Taylor led all scorers with 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 10-of-11 free-throw shooting. Crocker added 13 points and Jackson chipped in 12 points.
Tommy Lane paced LCU with 12 points.
