OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Dec. 5, 2009) – The Eagles' basketball team held off Lubbock Christian University through the final minutes of the game to earn Oklahoma Christian's 1000th win and their ninth of the season with a 64-61 victory.
After enduring through two ties and three lead changes at the game's start, Oklahoma Christian took the lead and held it for the remainder of the game, despite Lubbock Christian's advances.
OC's squad saw help from various players during the game with Jason Taylor leading the Eagles with 15 points. Taylor worked well under the basket pulling down 11 boards and additionally making four assists for the Eagles.
The Eagles' Jeff Crocker and Devan White scored 11 points apiece with Crocker adding six assists and a steal for Oklahoma Christian. White pulled down three rebounds for the Eagles and made three assists. Chad Endres proved his finesse under the basket putting up 10 points and grabbing five rebounds.
David Jackson, Andre Vaughn, and Michael Hill all made important contributions as well during the fast-paced action. Jackson had seven points and made two assists. Vaughn put up six points and grabbed three rebounds. Hill jammed in two points and added another two with a skillful layup over defenders. Hill also made two steals for the Eagles.
The Eagles had a hard time shutting down LCU's Kenny Hewitt as he put up 28 points during the game and was instrumental in cutting down OC's lead to only three points in the last minutes of the game.
The Eagles' win now leaves them with a 9-0 undefeated record and is the 1000th win in Oklahoma Christian's men's basketball history.
The OC men will return to the Nest to play Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday Night at 8 p.m. following the women's game. On Nov. 23, the Eagles played through four over time periods against NWOSU to finish win a 102-100 victory.
