Angela Pete had OC's only shot on goal as the Lady Eagles fell 2-0 Thursday night to Lubbock Christian.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 27, 2011) – Rebekah Wenger scored in the first half and Stacy Ann Johnson added an insurance goal after halftime to give Lubbock Christian a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on a cold, wet Thursday night.
Lubbock Christian (5-9, 3-6 Sooner Athletic Conference) moved past OC (5-10-1, 2-6-1) into eighth place in the conference standings – important because the top eight teams in the standings qualify for the SAC tournament. The Lady Chaparrals have nine points while OC has seven.
Both teams have two games remaining, against Wayland Baptist and Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Lubbock Christian outshot the Lady Eagles 12-7 and only one of OC's shots was on goal, that by Angela Pete. Lubbock Christian goalkeeper Allison Brinson made her only save of the night on Pete's shot.
Wenger's goal, in the 31st minute, came after OC players and coaches thought a Lubbock Christian player had touched the ball with her hand near the OC goal. The referee made no call and the Lady Chaps took advantage, as Kaylyn Settle dished the ball to Wenger, who beat OC goalkeeper Kaitlyn Whitten.
OC's Laura Welch fouled Jordin Farris in the penalty area in the 62nd minute, resulting in a penalty kick for the Lady Chaps, which Johnson converted.
Whitten went the distance for OC and made two saves.
OC will host Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon while Lubbock Christian visits Northwestern. OC will host Northwestern on Tuesday, while Lubbock Christian will host Wayland Baptist.
