OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 6, 2011) – Natalie Crosslin scored off two corner kicks by Josie Price in the first nine minutes, leading Southwestern Oklahoma State to a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday night.
Southwestern (1-1-1) controlled the action from start to finish, outshooting OC (1-1) by a 24-5 count. The Bulldogs, who compete in NCAA Division II, played most of the game in OC's end of the field and limited the Lady Eagles' offense so much that Southwestern goalkeeper Chelsey Dodd didn't have to make a save.
"We didn't possess the ball," OC head coach Randall Robison said. "We didn't attack and that certainly wasn't the game plan."
Southwestern took the lead less than four minutes into the game, as Crosslin headed Price's corner kick over the outstretched arms of OC goalkeeper Chelsie Flagg. About five minutes later, the exact same scene played out, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Ashley McMahon set up Southwestern's third goal with a pass to Courtney Hailey. Flagg saved an initial strong shot by Hailey, but the ball caromed right back to Hailey, who scored the easy goal at the 58:54 mark.
OC's best scoring chance came with about 20 minutes left on a free kick by Taylor Cofer, but her shot sailed over the goal. Angela Pete, with two shots, was the only player for the Lady Eagles to record more than one shot.
Flagg made eight saves for the Lady Eagles.
OC will return to the field Thursday night, when the Lady Eagles host Bacone at 6 p.m.
