Lady Eagles claim last-minute victory

CLAREMORE, Okla. (Feb. 27, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team came together to beat out Rogers State University (Okla.) 66-58 in the last minutes of the game on Saturday night.

Both teams came ready to play in the last game of the regular season. The first half saw two ties and six lead changes. Neither team led by more than four points during the period until RSU's Andrea Miles took the Lady Hillcats' lead to six in the last seconds of the period.

With 9:16 showing on the clock in the first half, the score sat tied 11-11 before the lead exchanged hands several more times during the period. The Lady Eagles' Lindsay McCown downed a basket with 3:43 left in the half to give OC their last lead before halftime at 22-21.

The Lady Hillcats headed to the locker room ahead by six at 33-27.

At the start of the second half, Lindsay McCown hit a three to quickly make it a three-point game. Moments later the Lady Eagles took the lead again before fighting through another five ties and five lead changes.

With 5:40 left on the clock, the score was tied up 50-50 as the Lady Eagles tried to escape the RSU women. A Lady Hillcat three-pointer gave RSU their last lead of the game with 4:03 left to play.

Despite tough defensive play, the Lady Eagles started to gap the Lady Hillcats after Kaitlyn Morris drained a three-point basket to put OC up by four points. The OC women increased the lead to eight by the game's end as they held off RSU's attempts to hold on.

The 66-58 victory gives the Lady Eagles a 19-11 season record and a 12-10 conference record.

Kailan DeCamp sank 20 points for the Lady Eagles keeping them competitive and made five rebounds and two steals as well.

Lindsay McCown and Brittney Kennedy added more double digit scoring for the Lady Eagles putting up 16 and 10 points, respectively. McCown grabbed nine boards while Kennedy picked up five of her own.

The OC women will start post-season play in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament that begins on Thursday, March 4.
