Lady Eagles defeated by Rogers State

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Dec. 4, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team fell 74-62 to a tough Rogers State University (Okla.) squad on Saturday night in the Eagles' Nest.

The Lady Eagles and Lady Hillcats met head on in a defense heavy and turnover filled period as there were eight lead changes, four ties, and 28 turnovers during the first half.

The Rogers State women took the first lead of the game with a free throw opportunity before all eight lead changes and ties followed during the next seven minutes. The final tie of the period at 14-14 occurred with 10:37 still left on the game clock with the lead margin never exceeding two points during that time.

Following the final tie, the OC women yielded an 8-0 run to the Lady Hillcats to fall to trail 22-14 with 6:21 left to play. Following several OC turnovers, the RSU women pushed to their largest lead of the period with a 12-point advantage at 30-18.

The Lady Eagles trailed by 11 before a last second foul by RSU behind the arc gave Katy Clift the chance to cut the Lady Hillcat lead to eight before the half.

Early into the second period the Lady Eagles fell to a 14-point deficit with an 8-2 run by the Lady Hillcats during the first minutes of the half.

The OC women continued to push back against the Lady Hillcats but another 7-0 run by RSU left the Lady Eagles at their largest deficit of the game as they trailed by 18 points at 52-34 with 12:16 still to play.

With 7:28 showing on the clock, the Lady Eagles had cut the margin down to a nine-point lead after putting up at 10-3 run against the RSU women. The OC women came with nine points two more times before regulation ran out, however, the solid Lady Hillcat squad left the Lady Eagles at a 12-point deficit for the 74-62 win.

Despite the loss and turnovers, OC's Carli Covalt managed 17 points and eight rebounds during the game.

At post, Katy O'Steen added 13 points to the Lady Eagles' total in addition to making five rebounds and two steals. Ayanna Jackson put up another 10 points for OC while Andee Wayne tallied eight of her own.

Perimeter players Clift and Krista Stevens each recorded six points with Clift making four assists and four rebounds.

The loss is the Lady Eagles' second for conference play to put them at 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The OC basketball teams will head to the road for a rematch against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday with the women scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m.
