Katy O'Steen had 21 points and eight rebounds for OC in a 72-55 loss Saturday at Rogers State.

CLAREMORE, Okla. (Feb. 11, 2012) – Sierra Cornwell scored a career-high 22 points and added six rebounds and five steals to lead Rogers State to a 72-55 win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at the Claremore Expo Center.

OC (8-17, 3-15 Sooner Athletic Conference) received 21 points and eight rebounds from Katy O'Steen, but only one other OC player scored in 11 points as the Lady Eagles shot 34.1 percent from the field (14 of 41), compared to 49.1 percent for Rogers State (28 of 57). OC also committed 23 turnovers, compared to 13 for the Hillcats.

"Katy had a great game and was really focused," OC coach Stephanie Findley said. "But one person can't carry us. We need to get everyone scoring the same day."

The Lady Eagles hung close early, taking a 12-10 lead on two free throws by Roz Hamilton with 12:04 left in the first half. But OC managed only one point over the next six minutes, allowing Rogers State (17-9, 11-7) to build a 20-13 lead. The Hillcats led 33-24 at halftime and never let OC get closer than that in the second half.

OC was within 44-33 after a 3-pointer by Katy Clift, but the Hillcats answered with eight straight points, including consecutive 3-pointers by Cornwell, to bump their lead up to 52-33 with 10:55 left. OC came no closer than 12 points after that.

"We didn't play good help-side defense versus their penetration," Findley said. "We need to shore up those holes and take some charges."

Hamilton scored 11 points for OC, going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, while Andee Wayne grabbed nine rebounds to go with her four points.

Cornwell finished 8-of-10 from the field for Rogers State. Leah Smith added 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting – including 3-of-4 from 3-point range – and Gianna Woods added nine points and nine rebounds. The Hillcats outrebounded OC 34-31.

OC will return home Thursday for its annual Senior Night game against USAO.
