OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 8, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team yielded a hard fall to No. 21 Oklahoma City University in a 67-44 loss on Saturday.
The Eagles, after a two-point head start by the Stars, grabbed a four-point lead soon thereafter when Devan White and Chad Endres hit back-to-back shots from behind the arc putting OC ahead at 6-2.
OC held the lead for a short period of time until the Stars tied things up at 10-10 with 13:00 still to play in the half and led the remainder of the game.
With 10:30 left in the first period, the Stars led by a single point, but started on a 14-0 run to lead by 15 at 27-12 with 5:16 left till the half. With 47 seconds to play, the Stars increased the lead to 17 for the highest of the period, but a basket from Andre Vaughn and a three-pointer from Jeff Crocker cut the lead to 12 before the buzzer.
The second half still saw a match controlled by the Stars. The OCU men led by a minimum of nine points during the entire half, and pushed to a lead of 23 points before the end of regulation.
A late 12-4 run by the Stars increased their lead to 20 with just 3:03 left to play. Despite efforts from the Eagles to retaliate, OCU was not hindered as they pushed their lead to 23 before the buzzer to claim the win at 67-44.
Will Reinke again paced the Eagles with an 11-point game, grabbing eight rebounds and making four blocks. Brandon Troutman added another seven points to the Eagle total in addition to two steals and two assists.
The loss gives the Eagles a season record of 10-5 and a conference record of 4-4 as they prepare to take on last years NAIA national champions, Oklahoma Baptist University, on Thursday. The women's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the men's scheduled to follow at 8 p.m.
