Eagles struggle from 3-point range in 69-58 loss to Bison

Eric Randall had 15 points and seven rebounds, but OC lost 69-58 to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 3, 2011) – Deangelo McIntosh scored 18 points and No. 7-ranked Oklahoma Baptist took advantage of Oklahoma Christian's long-range shooting woes to beat the Eagles 69-58 on Saturday afternoon.

The difference in the game was 3-point shooting. OBU (8-0, 2-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) hit 10 of 27 shots from behind the arc, with Emmanuel Wilson and Heath McKay both going 4-of-10. OC (5-3, 1-2) went just 3-of-17 from 3-point range.

The Eagles didn't help themselves at the free-throw line, going 13-of-21 (61.9 percent), and also committed 20 turnovers, compared to nine for OBU. Those numbers offset a 43-35 advantage for OC in rebounding.

"We can't turn it over 20 times and we can shoot 3 of 17 from 3," OC head coach Dan Hays said. "That's the bottom line. Our defense was plenty good enough to win."

Will Reinke (10 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots) and Eric Randall (15 points, seven rebounds) dominated inside for the Eagles in the early going, and Randall's basket put OC ahead 18-17 with 10:20 left before halftime.

McKay answered with a 3-pointer for the Bison, who scored the next seven points to go up 24-18. OC rallied within 24-23, but an 8-0 run by the Bison, keyed by two 3-pointers by Wilson, restored OBU's lead. The Bison led 34-27 at halftime.

But with Reinke limited to 25 minutes because of foul trouble and the Eagles misfiring from outside, they proved unable to chip into the OBU lead in the second half. The Bison led 45-30 with 13:36 left and OC came no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Derick Echols added 13 points for OBU, while Wilson scored 14 and McKay had 12. Brandon Troutman scored 10 points for OC. The Eagles shot 42.9 percent from the field (21 of 49), better than OBU's 40 percent (26 of 65).

"They're a veteran, all-senior team," Hays said of the Bison, who started five seniors. "We're still kind of developing and evolving. We've got to evolve quick, but we have to remember, championships aren't won in December."
