BETHANY, Okla. (Oct. 23, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's soccer team tied Southern Nazarene University 1-1 on Saturday night while the men suffered another loss and a 4-2 defeat.
In the women's game, the Lady Eagles managed a 1-1 tie against the Crimson Storm despite being outshot 48-4 throughout the game's entirety. The OC women were fortunate enough midway through the first period when the Southern Nazarene women scored an own goal to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0.
Despite taking the lead, the SNU women forced their way back down the field and scored just a minute later to tie up the game at 1-1.
The second period saw the same array of shots on the OC goal as the first; however, none managed to make it past the keeper. The 1-1 tie trickled over into two overtime periods, which again left both teams scoreless as neither could find the back of the net.
OC keeper, Natalie Goens, kept close watch at the OC goal as she made 15 saves on the night to keep the Lady Eagles in the game and contributed greatly to the final 1-1 draw.
The Lady Eagles are now 2-10-2 overall and hold a 1-6-1 record in the conference.
The Eagles also ran into trouble in their match against the Crimson Storm. Despite trailing just 1-0 at the half, two more goals by the SNU men put the Eagles down 3-0 with just over twenty minutes left to play in the second period.
OC finally got on the board, however, when Neil Hilton took a penalty kick after a foul was called in the box. Hilton's goal left the Eagles trailing at 3-1. Consequently, the Crimson Storm quickly retaliated scoring a fourth goal just seconds after the restart to give SNU the advantage at 4-1.
Not long after, the Eagles got another goal on the board from Don Towner to put the score at 4-2. The Eagles were unable to find the goal again in spite of several opportunities, leaving the win to the Crimson Storm.
The loss puts the Eagles at 3-11 overall and at 3-4 for the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The OC Soccer teams will head to Claremore, Okla. to face Rogers State University on Tuesday with the women kicking off first at 5 p.m. and the scheduled to follow at 7 p.m.
