David Scott, who spent 15 seasons as Oklahoma Christian's head men's soccer coach, began serving in the newly created role of assistant athletic director for gameday operations in April 2021. He is responsible for coordinating operational details for OC home athletic events in all sports, among other duties.
Scott, with a career record of 91-136-22, recorded more coaching wins than any other soccer coach in OC history.
Scott guided the Eagles to the NAIA Region 6 semifinals in 2007, one season after recording one of the best seasons in school history. In his first season in 2006, OC finished 12-5-2 – a six-win improvement on the previous campaign – and was ranked No. 12 in the final NAIA poll before advancing to the quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament.
The successful season netted the Sooner Athletic Conference coach of the year award for Scott, a 41-year-old Yukon native.
Even when his team struggled, Scott found a way to succeed. OC opened the 2010 season with nine straight losses, but they closed strong, winning five games in conference play to qualify for the SAC tournament. He guided the Eagles to what would have been a third-place finish in 2012 in their inaugural season in the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference, had the conference chosen to count OC’s games in the standings.
In 2015, OC rose as high as No. 6 in the Division II South Central Region rankings en route to an 8-9-1 finish that included an upset of national power Northeastern State.
Scott came to OC after stints as an assistant coach at Central Arkansas, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Saint Leo (Fla.).
As a player, Scott was a two-time All-Gulf South Conference and all-region goalkeeper at Central Arkansas. He served as team captain for four years and set school records for wins, shutouts, saves, games played and minutes played. He set a still-standing Gulf South record for saves in a game, with 19 vs. Montevallo (Ala.) in 1996, and ranks in the top five in league history in career matches, shutouts, wins, minutes and saves.
In April 2018, Central Arkansas honored Scott by naming him to its men’s soccer Wall of Honor.
He graduated in 2001 with a degree in graphic arts and stayed at UCA as an assistant coach. The Purple Bears won the 2002 Gulf South Conference title and reached the NCAA Division II semifinals. They were ranked No. 3 in the final national poll.
Scott returned to Oklahoma in 2003, earning his masters in business administration at Southwestern Oklahoma State while also serving as a women’s soccer assistant coach. In 2004, he moved to Florida, where he spent two years as an assistant at Saint Leo. The Lions won the 2005 Sunshine State Conference title and reached the NCAA Division II regional final.
Scott also served as the director of OC's fitness center until the summer of 2017. He and his wife, Jancy, married in March 2012. She once worked as a senior admissions counselor at OC.
