Article I. Purpose
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is made up of members from each intercollegiate athletic team at the Oklahoma Christian University. SAAC is assembled to offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes and to provide insight on the experience of the student-athletes. The purpose of the OC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the student-athlete experience by:
- Promoting leadership opportunities
- Protecting student-athlete welfare
- Develop a positive image of student-athletes
- Provide educational, spiritual, and community service opportunities
The SAAC will be the line of communication between the student-athletes and the athletic administration, along with the rest of the student body, to advance interest in OC athletics.
Article II. Membership
A. The membership will be composed of one voting member from each athletic team. The coach may appoint the members, or the team may elect the members
B. Meetings are open to all student-athletes, coaching staff members, athletic department staff members, University administrators and interested faculty.
C. Student-athletes are required to be in good academic standing and must be able to show commitment to the committee.
Article III. Officers
A. Chair-serves as the spokesperson for the SAAC, serves as liaison to the athletic department, and presides over meetings.
B. Vice-Chair-serves as the president when the President is unable to do so, oversees activities and meetings, and records minutes when secretary in unavailable.
C. Secretary/Treasurer-records minutes of each meeting, is responsible for maintaining committee member list along with email list and will be responsible for working with athletics staff in regards to SAAC funds.
Article IV. Responsibilities of Members
A. Meetings will be held at least once a month. Subcommittee meetings will be held in conjunction with the overall SAAC and as needed.
B. Attendance: all members are expected to attend scheduled meetings as long as the meetings do not interfere with class or team activities.
- Any SAAC member that will have to miss a scheduled meeting shall inform the committee chair of their absence.
- Upon the second uninformed absence the committee will discuss the appropriate action to be taken on behalf of the member missing meetings.
C. Provide opportunities for new athletes to meet SAAC representatives and staff early in the fall semester.
D. Vote on intercollegiate athletics matters as to represent the concern of the general athletic body.
E. Take proper steps to discuss athletic concerns, policies, and procedures.
F. Announce all meeting times to intercollegiate athletics staff and athletes.
Article V. Voting
A. Only SAAC members that are elected by their coach or team may vote.
B. The quorum is fifty-percent of the membership available to vote.
C. The majority is fifty-percent of the membership available to vote.
Article VI. Advisors
A. The Advisors will consist of one administrative staff member and one athletic coach.
Article VII. Amendments
A. Amendments to this constitution may be introduced at any meeting. Voting shall occur to accept or deny the amendment.
B. A sixty percent majority of the SAAC will be necessary to ratify amendments.
Article VII. AAC Members
A. Two members of the SAAC will serve on the Athletic Advisory Committee those will be elected by the SAAC members and will consist of a member of one women's sport and one men's sport.
- Chair and Vice-Chair will represent the SAAC on the AAC. If the Chair and Vice-Chair are both of the same gender, the Sec/Tres will be a member of the AAC instead of the Vice-Chair. If all three are of the same gender then one will be elected from the membership.
- Responsibility of sub-committee work on the AAC, could fall to the next officer in line due to time conflicts or restraints.
