OVERVIEW 

• Paulina Ruelas is a Spanish and psychology double major and biology and chemistry double minor from Honolulu, HI. 

• Ruelas swims the 400 IM, 200 IM, and 200 fly.

• Paulina is planning on going to medical school to eventually become a physician.

• Paulina’s go-to road trip snack is Tostitos Hint of Lime tortilla chips and a can of watermelon flavored Arizona tea.

• The people most important to Paulina are her family and friends, especially her mom Victoria, dad Manuel, older brother Pablo, and younger brother Samuel.

• Growing up, Paulina was inspired by Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. 

• Why OC?

  • “I chose OC because of the community and the good vibes. Coach Josh Davis is a charismatic guy who makes his swimmers feel appreciated and welcomed. Lastly, OC has all of the majors I am interested in pursing.”

• Ruelas competed in 11 meets for Oklahoma Christian University. 

• Placed 15th in the 200 IM at RMAC championships.

• Placed 9th in the 400 IM at RMAC championships.

• Placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke at RMAC championships.

• Placed 16th in the 200 breaststroke at RMAC championships.

• Ruelas competed in 10 meets for the University of Sioux Falls.

• Placed 15th in the 200 IM at NSIC championships.

• Placed 16th in the 400 IM at NSIC championships.

• Placed 10th in the 200 butterfly at NSIC championships.

• Placed 7th in the 100 IM at NSIC championships.

• Ruelas competed in 8 meets for the University of Sioux Falls.

• Placed 4th in the 200 IM at NSIC championships.

• Placed 3rd in the 400 IM at NSIC championships.

• Placed 3rd in the 400 medley relay at NSIC championships.

• Placed 2nd in the 200 butterfly at NSIC championships.

• Placed 5th in the 200 breaststroke at NSIC championships.

• Awarded Freshman of the Year for the 2020-2021 Northern Sun intercollegiate Conference.

HIGH SCHOOL 

• Ruelas attended and swam at Kalani High School.

• Placed 2nd in the 200 medley relay, 3rd in the 200 IM, 3rd in the 100 backstroke, and 3rd in the 400 freestyle relay at the Hawaii High School State Championships her senior year.

• Placed 5th in the 200 IM, 5th in the 500 freestyle, 3rd in the 200 freestyle relay, and 3rd in the 400 freestyle relay at the Hawaii High School State Championships her junior year.

• Placed 7th in the 100 butterfly and 2nd in the 400 freestyle relay at the Hawaii High School State Championships her sophomore year.

• Placed 8th in the 500 freestyle at the Hawaii High School State Championships her freshman year.

CAREER HIGH

• Paulina’s senior year of high school, she placed in the A Finals for all of her events at the Hawaii State Championship meet in high school and club swimming and got her lifetime bests in every single event at those meets.
