RICHARDSON, Texas - Oklahoma Christian University men's soccer defensive standout duo Tyler Ackah-Wheatcroft and Dante Caffaro have been selected as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, following an unbeaten week against top conference competition.
The pair anchored an Eagle defensive unit that allowed just a single goal, coming on a penalty kick, over 180 minutes of action against West Texas A&M and No. 3-ranked Midwestern State.
Senior defender Tyler Ackah-Wheatcroft earned his first career LSC Defensive Player of the Week honor after delivering a masterclass at both ends of the pitch.
The Liverpool, England native played all 180 minutes on the week. He sparked the Eagles to a 2-0 shutout victory against West Texas A&M by netting the game-winning goal, while anchoring a backline that stifled the Buffs. On Saturday, Ackah-Wheatcroft put in another 90-minute shift to help OC hold No. 3 Midwestern State to a 1-1 road draw, making Oklahoma Christian the first team in the conference to secure a point against the Mustangs this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dante Caffaro continued his stellar campaign between the posts, claiming LSC Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second time this season (first earned on Aug. 31).
The Pará de Minas, Brazil product started the week by recording his league-tying fourth clean sheet of the season in the 2-0 win over West Texas A&M. He followed that up with a five-save performance on the road against No. 3 Midwestern State, surrendering only a lone penalty-kick goal.
Caffaro played all 180 minutes across the two fixtures, extending OC's unbeaten start to Lone Star Conference play to 1-0-3.
