AUSTIN, Texas - Oklahoma Christian men's soccer fought back from an early deficit late on Wednesday evening, using a 26th-minute strike from Frederico Palacios to secure a 1-1 draw against St. Edward's at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
With the draw, the Eagles moved to 7-3-4 overall and 3-0-4 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Hilltoppers moved to 3-6-3 overall and 2-3-1 in LSC action.
How It HappenedÂ
St. Edward's struck early in the opening minutes when Isaac Guajardo finished an unassisted effort in the second minute to put the Hilltoppers ahead 1-0. Oklahoma Christian responded with early pressure, launching attempts from Igor Caballero and Kenzo Shabazz-Edwards to test SEU goalkeeper Kaleo Francis.
The breakthrough for the Eagles arrived in the 26th minute when Palacios slotted home his first goal of the season off an assist from Caballero to tie the match at 1-1. OC continued to generate chances through the remainder of the first half, outshooting St. Edward's 9-3 heading into the break.
The intensity ramped up in the second period as both sides battled through a physical half featuring three yellow cards and 21 combined fouls. Dante Caffaro and the Eagles' backline turned away SEU's late attacking efforts, including an 89th-minute shot on target saved by Caffaro, to lock in the road result.
The draw extends the Eagles' unbeaten streak in Lone Star Conference play to seven matches, keeping their undefeated conference record intact.
