Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kregg Matthews

Three Hour Delay, Two Goals, One Big Win

EDMOND - Powered by a dominant three-minute stretch in the first half, the Oklahoma Christian men's soccer team secured a 2–0 clean-sheet victory over Lone Star Conference foe West Texas A&M.

Senior midfielder Igor Caballero served as the primary playmaker, dishing out assists on both OC goals, while goalkeeper Dante Caffaro recorded a shutout between the posts to anchor the Eagles' defense.

The game didn't start smoothly though, as an early start at 3:55 p.m. was soon brought into a three-hour long lightning delay just twelve minutes into the match, and play didn't resume until 6:55 p.m.

Oklahoma Christian set the tempo early in the restarted match, earning back-to-back corner kicks in the 13th and 14th minutes to put immediate pressure on Buffaloes keeper Zach Kos.

The breakthrough came at the 14:27 mark, when Caballero found Tyler Ackah-Wheatcroft, who slotted a strike into the bottom center of the net to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Just three minutes later, the Eagles doubled their advantage. In the 17:35 minute, Caballero delivered another dangerous ball off a corner attempt, setting up Joshua Wells to finish in the bottom center of the goal and stretch the lead to 2–0.

West Texas A&M looked to respond immediately following the second Eagles goal, forcing Caffaro into action in the 15th minute with a shot from Octavio Estrada-Vazquez. Caffaro made the save, keeping WT off the scoreboard.

In a physical second half that saw five yellow cards issued across both squads, Oklahoma Christian's defensive unit limited West Texas A&M's scoring chances, keeping the Buffs off target on late shot attempts by Myles Taylor.

The Eagles continually disrupted West Texas A&M's build-up play in the final 20 minutes to seal the 2–0 decision.
