Women's Bowling Places Top-4 at Season-Opening Mid-States

WICHITA, Kan.- The No. 24 Oklahoma Christian women's bowling program headed up to Wichita, Kan., for its season opener at the Mid-States Championships hosted by Wichita State and Newman University Oct. 18-19.

Day One

OC needed to finish qualifying in the top eight for a chance at bringing back the Mid States Championships trophy. The Lady Eagles bowled six team games on Saturday for their first day of competition on the season.

After the first day of qualifying, Oklahoma Christian rolled a pinfall total of 5,735 to put themselves in second place in the 24 team field with the help of sophomore Zandria Davis averaging 201 and junior Matlyn Warner averaging 200 for the six games.

With 16 baker games left to bowl for day two of qualifying, OC hopes to roll into match play to reclaim their 2022 title.

Day Two

After the 16 baker games, the Lady Eagles were able to qualify as the second seed for match play.

In round one, Oklahoma Christian bowled the seventh seeded Peru State in the best three of five match play. After four games, OC moved on winning the match, 3-1.

In round two, the Lady Eagles bowled the sixth seeded Newman Jets. After five hard fought games, Oklahoma Christian unfortunately fell 2-3 finishing the tournament in 3rd/4th in the 24 team field.

Thoughts From Coach Hayes

"It was nice to see some early competition and identify what areas we need to focus on before opening up the NCAA schedule in two weeks. Our spare shooting was a little off this weekend so we will be focusing on that before heading to Houston. I thought overall the ladies did well for their first tournament of the season."

Up Next

Oklahoma Christian will head to Houston, Texas, in two weeks for the TRACK Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
