Eagles Start Season and Hilton Era with a 2-1 Victory

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (1-0-0) opened up the Neil Hilton Era with a 2-1 victory over Newman University (0-1-0) Thursday evening on Eagles Soccer Field. 

What Went Down 

  • Both teams struggled to find the back of the net until Newman's Felipe Calderaro put the Jets in the lead in the 39th minute of play. 
  • As time expired to end the first half, freshman David Pepple powered the ball past the goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1. 
  • Veteran team captain Joep Claassen gave the Eagles the lead in the 73rd minute off an assist from Luis Alvis

Notes 

  • First win under head coach, Neil Hilton.
  • With his goal tonight, Joep Claassen now has nine career goals.
  • In his first collegiate game, David Pepple scored his first collegiate goal. 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Pepe Hinterschuster gave an impressive performance, with six saves including a massive save at the end of the game to clinch the victory.
