Dave Jurney Passing Story

General Kregg Matthews

Oklahoma Christian Athletics mourns the passing of David Jurney

Jurney was an integral part of Oklahoma Christian's campus, where he grew up entrenched in the OC family. David headed up Oklahoma Christian's mass communications department and taught thousands of students over the years. He taught with passion for the industry and mentored with belief in every student that walked through his door. And he was most recently awarded the Austin Revolution Film Festival's Film Educator of the Year in 2022 for his efforts.

He greatly impacted Oklahoma Christian athletics by leading his students in producing Eagle Media, the school's broadcasting source for news on OC's campus. Through Eagle Media, Jurney created broadcasts for Eagles' basketball home events that raised the standard and made the Eagles' Nest and the players feel larger than life. Not only did Jurney contribute to the production side, but for several seasons was on the air, doing the play-by-play or color broadcasting portion and providing access to the basketball programs with player and coaches interviews.

One of David Jurney's recent graduates, Denton David, is producing a video tribute for David Jurney. Denton invites anyone in the OC community to schedule a time to tape a brief video tribute to David -- a memory, fond words, a Bible verse, etc. Denton and his production crew will be in Baugh Auditorium Friday, February 3, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM to tape the tributes. People can either drop in or sign up for a specific time to be videotaped.

The memorial service for David will be held Sunday, February 5th, at 2:30 PM at Wilshire Church of Christ (400 E. Wilshire Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK. 73105). We invite everyone to come and pay their respects and celebrate his life and legacy at OC.
