Men’s Soccer Heading South After Quarterfinals Victory at StMU

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Tx. - Men's soccer hit the road to take on St. Mary's (8-5-6, 2-2-5) in their second consecutive conference tournament berth. Oklahoma Christian (4-8-6, 3-4-2) came into the match without its leading goal scorer, Ellis Jones, and leader in assists, Elliott Forestier, due to red cards.

WHAT WENT DOWN

Both teams entered the match feeling the pressure, making for a physical first half of play. The Rattlers came out firing, putting up 5 shots to OC's 1. Neither team was able to find the back of the net before half time.
Coach Sowerby lit a fire under the Eagles as they put themselves on the board just two minutes into the second half. Isaias Silva got a great touch on the ball, setting himself up to hit his second goal of the season.
In a tightly contested second half, St. Mary's tried to respond with a goal of their own but were met by back-to-back saves from Fynn Koerner in the 76th and 79th minutes.
Shortly after, John Ighede found himself one-on-one with the goalie as he lofted the ball into the back of the net to put the game out of reach. The Eagles come away with the 2-1 victory and move on to the LSC Semifinals.

UP NEXT

The Eagles head to Wichita Falls, TX this Friday, November 10th, to take on No. 2 Midwestern State University in the LSC Semifinals game.
