NORMAN, Okla. (May 18, 2022) – The Golf Coaches Association of American named Oklahoma Christian's
Exequiel Rodriguez on Wednesday to the All-Freshman team for NCAA Division II.
Rodriguez, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is only the second OC player ever to make the Division II All-Freshman list and the first since Sam Johnston did so in 2013.
Entering this week's NCAA Division II Championship, Rodriguez has recorded five top-10 finishes this season, including a fourth-place showing in the Division II South Central-West Super Regional in Pueblo, Colo., earlier this month. He had 11 rounds at or under par and a stroke average of 72.94 over 33 rounds.
He made a clutch 15-foot bogey putt on the final hole in the Super Regional that sealed OC's first trip to the national tournament since 2016.
Earlier this week, Rodriguez also made the GCAA's All-South Central Region list and last month, he was named to the All-Lone Star Conference second-team list.
Rodriguez joined Josep Serra of Nova Southeastern (Fla.), Adam Duncan of Colorado Christian, Clay Tucker of Florida Southern and J.J. Zimmer of Union (Tenn.) on the GCAA All-Freshman team. Serra received the NCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award presented by StrackaLine.
