OKLAHOMA CITY (March 28, 2022) – Four Oklahoma Christian players stood in the top 10 after the opening day Monday in the Kyle Blaser Invitational women's golf tournament at Gaillardia Country Club, with the Eagles second in the team race.

OC posted a team score of 607 over two rounds, improving from 309 to 298 round-to-round. The Eagles trailed only tournament host and NAIA No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University, which had a team score of 587. NAIA No. 9-ranked Texas Wesleyan was in third place in the 11-team field, two shots behind OC.

OC recorded 21 birdies, only one less than did OCU, with four of the Eagles' starters recording at least four over their two rounds. Junior Alexandria Bennett of Plano, Texas, had four during rounds of 76 and 1-over-par 73 on the 6,075-yard course. Her 149 score put her in a tie for third in the 57-woman field behind two OCU players, Maddi Kamas (141) and Reagan Chaney (148).

Wilma Merenmies, a sophomore from Raasepori, Finland, also had four birdies and was tied for sixth at 151 after shooting a 74 and a 77. Tied for eighth at 152 was freshman Sofia Benavides Herberth of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, who had five birdies while posting rounds of 77 and 75.

Freshman Sarah Sherrard of Moore was tied for second in the field with six birdies. She was tied for 17th at 158, improving from 85 to 73 round to round. Sophomore Alyssa Wilson of Yukon shot consecutive 82s and was tied for 26th at 164.

OC freshman Haley Blevins of Edmond, playing as an individual, was tied for 10th at 153, posting rounds of 74 and 79. She also had four birdies on the day.

The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
