Canyon, Texas - Oklahoma Christian (9-4-4, 3-3-2 LSC) went down to Canyon, Texas, looking to control what they could control, and they did just that by beating No. 22 West Texas A&M (5-2-8, 3-1-4 LSC).
The Eagles' defense held played well tonight and shut out the Buffs in the first half of the match. Daniel Hosier making his second consecutive start in goal had six saves on the night.
The goals all came within ten-minute increments of each other, as WT broke open the match in the 58th minute to take a 1-0 lead. But in the 68th minute, the Eagles tied up the match with a goal off of a free kick from Elliott Forestier, his first of the season.
In the 78th minute, in a very familiar situation, Joep Claassen lined up another free kick just outside the box and blasted it past the keeper to give OC the 2-1 advantage. Claassen's goal tied him for the team lead with seven goals this season, and it was his third game-winning goal of the season.
The win puts the Eagles back in the top six of the Lone Star Conference standings, as they now sit in fifth place. The top six teams make the conference Championships.
Oklahoma Christian will return home Saturday for Senior Day, and a chance to remain in the top six in their final regular season match at 7 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico at Eagle Soccer Field.
