OKLAHOMA CITY (March 2, 2021) – Texas-Tyler scored a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes and left the Eagle Soccer Field on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Christian in OC's spring-semester home opener.
Texas-Tyler (1-2-1, 1-1-1 Lone Star Conference) and OC (0-2, 0-2) remained deadlocked through the first half, as OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet made five of his nine saves.
OC's
Bjarne Deraeve nearly put the Eagles ahead in the 47th minute, hitting the right post with a shot.
Luke Humphrey's shot in the 58th minute bounced off the crossbar, again denying the Eagles the lead.
Luis Machecha broke the scoreless tie for Texas-Tyler in the 73rd minute with an unassisted goal and promptly received a yellow card, one of four shown the Patriots on the day. Nathaniel Lopez's goal in the 81st minute extended Texas-Tyler's lead to 2-0.
The Patriots outshot OC 18-8 and Texas-Tyler goalkeeper Mathias Eriksen made two saves. Deraeve and
Ian Arendse each took two of the Eagles' shots.
OC will return to action on Saturday, hosting longtime NCAA Division II power Midwestern State (Texas) at 2 p.m.
