TYLER, Texas (Oct. 16, 2021) – Xjavier Martinez scored in the 78th minute and Texas-Tyler made that goal stand up to beat Oklahoma Christian 1-0 on Saturday at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
In a defensive-minded game, Texas-Tyler (6-4-1, 2-0 Lone Star Conference) combined for only 17 shots – 11 for the Patriots, six for OC (1-6-3, 0-2-1). Neither team had a shot until the 15th minute and the first shot on goal didn't come until the 34th minute.
Martinez broke the scoreless deadlock, scoring off a cross from Malte Andres. OC's best scoring chance after that came less than a minute later, when
Miguel Fonseca's shot forced a save by Texas-Tyler goalkeeper Eduardo Alba. Fonseca and João Rathino each took two shots for OC.
Alba made the one save in relief of Mathias Eriksen, who made two saves for the Patriots. OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet made four saves.
Three of OC's final five regular-season games will be at home, starting with a game Wednesday against LSC rival Texas A&M International.
