BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (July 21, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian golfer
Alyssa Wilson of Yukon won one match in the Women's Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship but dropped a tight second-round match on Tuesday at The Golf Club of Oklahoma.
Wilson, who just finished her freshman season at OC, qualified 11th in the 32-woman field on Monday, shooting a 6-over-par 78. In the first round of match play, she rolled past 22nd-seeded Marna Raburn of Bixby 4 and 3, finishing the match in only 15 holes.
She faced No. 27 seed Rachel Eckert of Bixby – who just completed her sophomore season at Oklahoma City University – in the second round. The collegians played the longest match of the tournament so far, a 20-hole battle that didn't end until Eckert took the second extra hole, giving her a 1-up win over Wilson.
Eckert was one of an amazing four players seeded 25th or below to advance to Wednesday's quarterfinals.
Wilson played in four tournaments for OC as a freshman, posting a stroke average of 80.63 over eight rounds. Her best finish was a 15th-place showing in the NCAA Division II West Super Region Preview at The Club at La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif., in October.
