OKLAHOMA CITY (March 13, 2020) –
Sydney Ringer, the head athletic trainer at Oklahoma Christian, has been chosen as part of the 2020 induction class into the Mid America Athletic Trainers Association's Hall of Fame.
The MAATA consists of athletic trainers from Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Missouri. Joining Ringer in the organization's 2020 induction class will be Diane Bartholomew of Missouri Valley College and Rob Marshall of Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Neb.
"Their contributions to the District and to the profession are far reaching," said Michael Catterson, the head athletic trainer at Jenks High School and the Website Committee chairman for the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association. "The District is fortunate to benefit from the contributions of these three athletic trainers."
It's the second Hall of Fame into which Ringer will be inducted, as she was a part of the OATA's 2015 Hall of Fame induction class.
Ringer has worked at OC for 15 years. An Oklahoma City native, she graduated from Oklahoma State in 1989 and received her master's degree from the University of Tulsa in 1991. She began her career as an athletic trainer at Neosho (Kan.) Community College.
She moved to TU as an assistant athletic trainer in 1992 and was promoted to coordinator of sports medicine services at TU in 1995. She stayed at TU until coming to OC in 2005 to begin work in OC's growing athletic department.
Ringer also serves as a preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program at the University of Central Oklahoma and as the chairman of the OATA's scholarship committee, having held the latter role for more than a decade. She is a past member of the OATA's executive committee and served as that committee's secretary, vice president and president from 1996 to 2002.
On a national level, she served on the National Athletic Trainers' Association's Women in Athletic Training Committee from 1999 to 2003 and now serves on the NATA Foundation Scholarship Committee.
