Goodwin advances to State Amateur quarterfinals

Former OC star Kate Goodwin advanced to the WOGA State Amateur Championship quarterfinals.
EDMOND, Okla. (July 23, 2019) – Former Oklahoma Christian standout Kate Goodwin won a pair of matches Tuesday in the Women's Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship to advance to the quarterfinals on Oak Tree Country Club's East Course.

Goodwin, seeded fourth, downed Oklahoma City University rising sophomore Rachel Eckert of Bixby 3 and 1, the No. 29 seed, in the opening round before beating former Oklahoma All-American (and former Oral Roberts assistant coach) Jennifer Tannehill of Tulsa – the No. 13 seed – 2-up in the afternoon.

It's the third time in the last four years that Goodwin, from Tulsa, has reached the State Amateur quarterfinals. Last year, she advanced to the semifinals before falling to current Oklahoma player Sydney Youngblood of Durant.

Goodwin will face 21st-seeded Madison O'Dell of Owasso, a junior at Central Oklahoma, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday morning. The winner of that match will face either top-seeded ShaeBug Scarberry of Purcell, a rising sophomore at Troy University (who spent last season at the University of Tulsa), or eighth-seeded Faith Belmear of Owasso, a rising sophomore at Missouri State.

The title match will be Thursday morning.

Goodwin won five tournaments during her OC career, including the 2018 NCAA Division II West Super Regional at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo. She was named to the All-Heartland Conference second-team list this spring, leading the Eagles to their first berth in the NCAA Division II Championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
