INDIANAPOLIS (April 29, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian officially received its second bid to the NCAA Division II women's golf postseason on Monday, as the Eagles were one of 12 teams chosen to play in the West Super Regional.
The Super Regional will be played May 6-8 at Amarillo Country Club in Amarillo, Texas, and will include six individual qualifiers along with the 12 teams.
The top four team finishers at the Super Regional and top three individuals not on one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Championship, set for May 15-18 at PGA National Resort's Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
OC last qualified as a team for the Super Regional in 2016, the program's first season of eligibility in Division II. The past two seasons, the Eagles have had individuals qualify for the tournament –
Abigail Rigsby and
Kate Goodwin in 2017 and Goodwin again in 2018. Goodwin went on to win the Super Regional individual title.
The Eagles were No. 6 in the region rankings announced Monday, well within the cut line for this year's Super Regional, after spending a week at No. 5 earlier in the spring.
In 2018-19, OC has won three tournaments – the Northeastern State Women's Classic at Cherokee Springs Golf Club in Tahlequah, Okla., the Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas, and the Hillcat Classic at Bailey Ranch Golf Club in Owasso, Okla.
In its most recent tournament, OC finished behind only Dallas Baptist (Texas) – the region's top-ranked team – in the Heartland Conference Championship tournament at Slick Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, ahead of fellow Super Regional qualifiers St. Mary's (Texas) and St. Edward's (Texas).
Dallas Baptist led the list of Super Regional qualifiers, followed by California State-San Marcos, West Texas A&M, St.Mary's, Academy of Art (Calif.), OC, St. Edward's, Sonoma State (Calif.), Texas A&M-Commerce, California State-Monterey Bay, Colorado State-Pueblo and Simon Fraser (British Columbia).
The six individual qualifiers were Alli Kim of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), Julia Baroth of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Shantel Antonio of Concordia (Ore.), Yu Hsin Chang of California State-East Bay, Julie Knaw of Tarleton State (Texas) and Cammie Decker of Concordia (Ore.).
