Eagles’ postseason hopes end with loss at West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas (Nov. 2, 2019) – Needing a win to keep its postseason hopes alive, Oklahoma Christian dropped a 2-0 decision on Saturday afternoon to West Texas A&M at The Pitch.

OC (5-9, 2-6 Lone Star Conference) has six standings points with two games remaining and can't catch West Texas A&M (8-5-1, 4-3-1), which has 13 standings points and is in the sixth and final spot to qualify for the LSC postseason tournament.

The Eagles posted a dramatic comeback from a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 at Eastern New Mexico on Thursday but weren't able to carry that momentum against West Texas A&M, which outshot OC 30-6.

Kenny Brown put the Buffaloes ahead in the 21st minute and could have made it 2-0 in the 28th minute, but OC goalkeeper Anthony Trabichet saved a penalty kick awarded to Stefan Andjelic, keeping the Eagles within a goal.

In the 38th minute, OC's Pedro Ribeira received a red card, leaving the Eagles down a man for the rest of the match. Still, OC hung tough and nearly tied the game in the 86th minute, when a shot by Carlos Trapero hit the crossbar.

West Texas A&M added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, by Mattheiu Donati.

Trabichet, a sophomore from Thonon-les-Baines, France, made a career-high 12 saves, the second-highest single-game total this season by a Heartland goalkeeper. His West Texas A&M counterpart, Alexander Vencel, had three saves.

OC will close out its season with a pair of home games next week, on Thursday against Dallas Baptist (Texas) and on Saturday against St. Edward's (Texas).
