AMARILLO, Texas (Oct. 1, 2019) – Rain washed out the final round of the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Tascosa Golf Club's La Paloma Golf Course, leaving Oklahoma Christian with a third-place team finish and freshman Wilma Merenmies as the individual runner-up.

Even with an earlier tee time on Tuesday morning, no player completed more than four holes before the decision was made to shorten the tournament to 18 holes, meaning results from Monday's first round became final.

No. 10-ranked West Texas A&M won the 13-team event with a score of 299, followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (310) and No. 17 OC (313).

Merenmies, from Jyvaskyla, Finland, shot a 1-over-par 73 on Monday on the 6,006-yard course, recording four birdies and closing the round with six straight pars. She finished two shots behind medalist Holly Winter of West Texas A&M. It was the third top-20 finish in as many collegiate tournaments for Merenmies and her second straight top-10 finish.

OC had one other player in the top 10 – junior Felicity Wittenberg of West Pymble, Australia, who tied for 10th in the 70-woman field with a 78. It was the second top-10 finish this season (and of her career) for Wittenberg.

Freshman Alyssa Wilson of Yukon, Okla., shot an 80 and tied for 21st. Other players for the Eagles were junior Shaley Goad of nearby Wheeler, Texas, and sophomore Alexandria Bennett of Plano, Texas, who both tied for 25th with an 82.

The Eagles will close their fall season on Oct. 21-22 in the NCAA Division II West Super Region Preview at The Club at La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif.
