WACO, Texas (Jan. 10, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian placed 175 student-athletes on the Heartland Conference Academic Honor Roll for the spring semester, the second-highest total of any league school.

The conference announced the fall Honor Roll on Thursday. OC tied for the most honorees in women's basketball (15) and women's golf (eight), had the most among nonconference sports (56) and tied for third in baseball (28).

"We strive to be competitive in all we do, and academics are a huge part of that," OC Athletic Director David Lynn said. "It's encouraging to see our athletic department consistently rank among the leaders when it comes to student-athletes making the Heartland Honor Roll. It takes hard work and dedication to do that semester after semester."

The Honor Roll is divided into two categories. To qualify for the President's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a grade-point average of 3.5 or above for the semester, while those who post a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 receive recognition on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

OC had 102 student-athletes (50 men, 52 women) make the President's list, while 73 others (49 men, 24 women) made the Commissioner's list. Baseball had the most players honored with 28, followed by men's soccer with 17 and women's basketball with 15. Women's golf and women's cross country each placed eight of their nine team members on the Honor Roll (88.9 percent), while women's basketball had 15 of 18 (83.3 percent).

Two OC student-athletes made the list twice – Lexi Lane and Natalie Thomas, who compete on both the women's soccer and track and field teams.

This is the thirdd academic year in which the Heartland has allowed student-athletes from sports not sponsored by the conference to receive recognition on the honor roll, which means members of OC's track and field and swimming teams are among those honored, even though they compete in separate conferences.

Across the Heartland, 1,279 student-athletes received recognition on one of the lists. St. Edward's (Texas) had 194, followed by OC.
