Newman gains season split with OC as Eagles fall on road

Freshman Luke Humphrey started on a defensive back line that allowed Newman only eight shots on Thursday.
Box Score WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 12, 2017) – Jamie Barkway and Vitor Okamoto each scored for Newman (Kan.) and the Jets held off Oklahoma Christian 2-0 in men's soccer on Thursday at Wilkins Field.

The win gave Newman (4-6-3, 2-5-2 Heartland Conference) a regular-season split with OC (3-7-2, 1-6-2), which beat the Jets 1-0 in Oklahoma City on Sept. 21.

OC outshot the Jets 9-8 but wasn't able to find the back of the net against Newman goalkeeper Chase Bowman, who made three saves. His OC counterpart, Gianluca Marchetti, was credited with one save.

Barkway scored on a header in the 23rd minute and Okamoto gave Newman a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

OC leads its all-time series against Newman by a 14-10-1 margin.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday night, visiting NCAA Division II No. 3-ranked Midwestern State (Texas).
