Harding rides early goal to 1st win over Eagles

OC's Sergio Flores looks to advance the ball during Saturday's game while being pursued by Harding's Austin McAlister.
Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 10, 2016) – For the first time since Harding (Ark.) and Oklahoma Christian began their fledgling men's soccer rivalry in 2014, OC has lost to the Bisons.

Harding's Cooper Mosley scored in a scramble situation in the 17th minute and the Bisons made that goal stand up to beat OC 1-0 on a beautiful autumn-like afternoon at the Eagle Soccer Field.

Oklahoma Christian (2-2) outshot Harding (3-1) by an 11-9 count, but it was the Bisons who had the majority of the better scoring chances.

The one on which they converted started with a free kick by Oliver Callado from about 35 yards out. Harding's Braeden Grundy got a head on the ball, which OC goalkeeper Evan Helker was able to block, but in a crowded penalty box, the rebound fell to Mosley, who scored to put Harding ahead.

OC had the benefit of a significant wind at its back in the second half, but the Eagles weren't able to take advantage of it. The Eagles' two best scoring chances came in the final three minutes as they scrambled for a potential equalizer.

Harding goalkeeper Michael Wasson saved a strong header by Sergio Flores (off a corner kick by Chandler Parrish) in the 88th minute. The Eagles earned another corner kick in the 90th minute, which Parrish also took, but Anthony Buchanan's header sailed just inches over the crossbar.

Both Wasson and Helker made three saves each.

In 2014, OC and Harding – which are sister Church of Christ universities – tied 1-1 in Oklahoma City, while the Eagles prevailed 4-1 in last year's meeting in Searcy, Ark.

OC's five-game homestand will continue on Thursday night with the Eagles' Heartland Conference opener against Eastern New Mexico.
