Eagles stymied in narrow loss at Lubbock Christian

OC midfielder Troy Tippeconnic gets his head on the ball during Saturday's match at Lubbock Christian.
Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas (Oct. 8, 2016) – In what has become an unfortunate trend, Oklahoma Christian lost by one goal for the fifth time this season, dropping a 1-0 decision on Saturday afternoon to Lubbock Christian (Texas) at the LCU Soccer Field.

OC (3-8-1, 1-6-1 Heartland Conference)  held its own against Lubbock Christian (3-8-1, 2-5-1), forcing LCU goalkeeper Fernando Rios to make three of his five saves during the first 18 minutes of the game, but the Eagles weren't able to break through offensively.

The Chaparrals, who outshot OC 16-12, scored in the 53rd minute on a goal by Cedric Omoregie, off an assist by Chance McCarter.

In the 65th and 66th minutes, Rios saved the Eagles' final two shots on goal, by Tyler Buchanan (after a corner kick by Cody Cook) and Taylor Vanderford, respectively.

OC goalkeeper Evan Helker finished with four saves.

The Eagles will try to bounce back with a pair of home games next week, against Newman (Kan.) on Thursday night and national power Midwestern State (Texas) on Saturday night.
