Box Score ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 6, 2016) – An early lead ended in another heartbreak for Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night at Texas-Permian Basin.
OC controlled the game most of the way, but surrendered a pair of goals – one right before halftime and one right after – and lost 2-1 to the Falcons in a Heartland Conference men's soccer game on the UTPB Turf Field.
OC (3-7-1, 1-5-1 Heartland) outshot UTPB (3-5-2, 3-2-2) by a 20-14 count and quickly went ahead on a goal by senior
Taylor Vanderford – his first of the season – in the ninth minute. Vanderford chipped in a loose ball after a free kick from about 40 yards out by
Cody Cook.
The Eagles held the lead until the 41st minute, when Rafael Moreira equalized for the Falcons off assists from Tainan Bagetti and Raleigh Gregston. UTPB went ahead in the 53rd minute on another goal by Moreira, who scored off a free kick by Cesar Cid.
OC had 10 more shots after that – and three corner kicks in the final 4½ minutes – but couldn't score against UTPB goalkeeper Alec Sproule, who made seven saves. OC goalkeeper
Evan Helker had six saves.
The Eagles' road trip will continue Saturday with a game at Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 1 p.m.
