Box Score ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 8, 2015) – Wet, sloppy playing conditions didn't appear to bother the Oklahoma Christian Eagles on Thursday at Texas-Permian Basin.
Brandon Little Axe and
Ante Susic scored first-half goals and goalkeeper
Evan Helker recorded eight saves – his second-highest total of the season – lifting OC to a 2-0 win over the Falcons in the first of five straight road games for the Eagles.
NCAA Division II South Central Region No. 8-ranked OC (7-4, 1-2 Heartland Conference) used a formula that has given them much success this season – absorb the opponent's pressure, then counterattack when appropriate. UTPB (4-6, 1-2) outshot the Eagles 20-10, but thanks in good part to Helker, weren't able to get a goal to give them momentum.
Little Axe scored his second goal of the season in the 14th minute.
Clay Collier sent a long pass down the field to
Troy Tippeconnic, who crossed the ball to Little Axe. All Little Axe had to do by that point was put the ball into an empty goal.
In the 23rd minute, Susic gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Sergio Flores played a ball through the right side to Susic, who beat UTPB goalkeeper Justin Bryant with a shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
Bryant finished with five saves for the Falcons.
OC will return to action Saturday, playing at Lubbock Christian (Texas).
