Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 3, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian got the better of Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Saturday afternoon on the stat sheet – except for the most important number of all.
Dallas Baptist picked up a pair of goals in the final 14 minutes to steal a 2-0 win from the Eagles, OC's second straight loss after a four-game winning streak. The Patriots beat OC (6-4, 0-2 Heartland Conference) for the first time since the 2012 season.
OC outshot Dallas Baptist (4-4-1, 2-0) by a 16-12 count and both goalkeeper shined, with both OC's
Evan Helker and the Patriots' Mason Stringer making seven saves.
The Eagles finally blinked defensively in the 77th minute. Dallas Baptist's Riley Avery drew a foul in the penalty box and converted the ensuing penalty kick to put the Patriots ahead.
OC's
Taylor Vanderford nearly tied it in the 83rd minute with an athletic bicycle shot that rocketed toward the goal, but Stringer was able to make the stop for the Patriots.
Cody Cook, who led the Eagles with five shots, had another good opportunity snuffed out by Stringer in the 88th minute.
The Eagles began pushing forward after that, looking for an equalizer, and Dallas Baptist took advantage. With Helker well outside the penalty box, Michalin Dennie chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's head and it rolled into the goal in the 89th minute.
OC will play its next five games on the road, starting with a visit Thursday to Texas-Permian Basin for a Heartland Conference contest.
