Box Score LAREDO, Texas (Oct. 15, 2015) – When Oklahoma Christian and Texas A&M International met last month at OC in a nonconference game, a golden goal by
Nijee Cooper proved to be the difference in the Eagles' 1-0 win.
In the conference matchup between the Heartland Conference foes on Thursday, a golden goal again decided the game, but this time it went in the Dustdevils' favor. Connor Hogg scored off a deflection in the 94th minute to give TAMIU a 2-1 win.
OC (8-5, 2-3 Heartland), 10th in the NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings, still controls its own destiny in the race for one of the four spots in the conference postseason tournament. But the Eagles now need to win at St. Mary's (Texas) on Saturday and sweep home games against contenders Rogers State and Newman (Kan.) later this month to ensure a berth.
OC fell despite nine saves by goalkeeper
Evan Helker, matching his season high.
TAMIU (4-7, 2-1) outshot the Eagles 19-8. In the 10th minute, TAMIU's Rodrigo Zuniga hit the crossbar, and the Dustdevils broke through in the 30th minute. Tayeb Ahmadi received a pass from Ryan Hodgson, slipped a defender and scored from eight yards out.
The Eagles tied the game in the 42nd minute off a set piece, as
Seth Brown – who last week re-joined the OC squad – put home a corner kick by
Cesar Zepeda.
TAMIU goalkeeper Miguel Lucio made three saves.
