Box Score CANYON, Texas (Sept. 25, 2014) – For the second straight year, Oklahoma Christian came agonizingly close to breaking through against South Central Region men's soccer power West Texas A&M.
Down 2-0 in the final minutes on Thursday night, the Eagles got a goal from
Seth Brown but couldn't complete the rally, falling 2-1 in the opening match of a two-game road trip.
West Texas A&M (5-2) scored on an 84th-minute penalty kick to beat OC 1-0 last season, but this time, the Buffaloes controlled the game most of the way, outshooting the Eagles 21-6, including 13-1 in the first half.
Vitor Cardoso put West Texas A&M ahead in the 32nd minute. The Buffaloes extended their lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute, when Michael Williams scored off a cross from Christopher Hutton.
Brown scored his second career goal – and his first of the season – in the 89th minute, taking a cross from
Troy Tippeconnic and sliding it past West Texas A&M goalkeeper Carlos Ruiz. But OC (1-3-1) was unable to get off another shot before time expired.
Ruiz made two saves while OC goalkeeper
Evan Helker had 10 stops, the second-highest total of his career.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, when they visit Eastern New Mexico.
