Eagles can’t hold early lead, fall 4-1 to Eastern New Mexico

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 27, 2013) – Eastern New Mexico used an aggressive, fast-paced offensive attack to rally from an early deficit to win 4-1 at Oklahoma Christian on Friday night.

OC (2-3-1) lost its second straight game while ENMU (5-3-1) moved to 3-0-1 against Heartland Conference foes this soccer season.

The Eagles caught a break in the fourth minute when ENMU goalkeeper Severin Niessen was called for a foul in the penalty box after colliding with OC forward Brandon Little Axe. Domenico DeGrazia converted the ensuing penalty kick – his seventh goal of the season – to put the Eagles up 1-0.

But the Greyhounds quickly took control after that. Jose Hernandez took two dribbles and beat OC goalkeeper Connor Davenport in the 12th minute to tie the game, and two minutes later, Eishu Kanemitsu fed Raphael Splanemann for a goal that put ENMU up 2-1.

Other than the penalty kick, the Eagles weren't able to record a shot on goal in the first half. OC was able to generate a bit of offense after halftime, finishing the game with five shots. But one of the Eagles' most creative playmakers, Ricardo Chinchilla, had to be helped off the field in the 58th minute after a collision with Splanemann, who received a yellow card on the play.

ENMU scored twice in the second half. Andy Wilkinson headed in a corner kick from Julian Roberts at the 50-minute mark and in the 71st minute, Roberts and Carlos Viveros recorded assists on a goal by Jordan Gregory. The Greyhounds finished with 21 shots.

Davenport went the distance in goal for OC, recording five saves. Niessen didn't have a save.

OC will be off for eight days before beginning Heartland Conference play at St. Edward's (Texas) on Oct. 5.
