OC-MACU highlights
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 2, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian women's soccer team pulled off a 2-0 victory over Mid-America Christian University on Monday night with the men tying MACU 1-1 in double overtime.
The Lady Eagles, clothed in pink uniforms in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, took to the field ready to score. Through several shots on goal, the Lady Eagles were unable to score during the first half. The OC women's defensive squad held firm keeping the Lady Evangels scoreless as well.
The second period again saw a Lady Eagles squad determined to score. Not long into the half, Stephanie Duncan took an assist from Hope Heinen and put the ball past the MACU keeper giving the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Duncan again went to the goal after being assisted by India Farr to score her 10th goal of the season.
The OC women continued the shutout against the Lady Evangels through regulation time to earn their ninth win of the season and a 9-6-2 overall record.
The men's game also experienced a scoreless first half and despite various shots on goal, both defenses were unyielding.
At the start of the second half, Cristian Fernandes got his foot on the ball and put it into the back of the net to give the Eagles the lead.
Later in the half, MACU's Jeremiah Huff responded with a long shot into the top of the OC goal to tie the game. Garrett Dresel assisted Huff on the goal. Huff's goal was the last of regulation time taking the game to overtime.
The teams fought through two overtime periods yet the stubborn defenses kept the remainder of the game scoreless yielding the Eagles their second tie for the season. The Eagles are now 9-4-2 on the year.
The OC women's and men's squads head to Saint Gregory's (Okla.) tomorrow, Nov. 3, for their last regular season games. The women will kickoff at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.
