OC Defeats OBU

In their first ever soccer competition, Oklahoma Christian beat Oklahoma Baptist University 3-1 here Oct. 19.

The OC men's team improved its record to 7-2-4 and its league record to 2-1-2 with the win over the Bison.

The Eagles broke open a 1-1 tie in the second half to go ahead in the 86th minute of play. Freshman Phillip Hoover scored from in front of the goal, after taking a pass from sophomore Brady Nikkel.

OC had scored in the first half on a successful penalty kick by Matt Clark, his 18th goal of the season, in the 43rd minute. OBU evened it 1-1 on Amaury Nunes' goal in the 82nd minute.

In the closing seconds of the game, Eagles' freshman Jason Frei kicked in a goal from approximately 40 yards out on a net left unprotected by the OBU goalkeeper. At the OC of end of the field the ball was played up-field, the Eagles controlled the ball around midfield and Frei took a long shot at the net and it rolled in for the third goal.

Oklahoma Christian will play Friends University and Newman University in Wichita, Kan. this weekend, Oct. 22-23.
