WICHITA, KS (Oct. 2, 2007) - Behind a pair of goals in the game's opening nine minutes, Oklahoma Christian shut out NCAA Division II Newman University Tuesday night to improve to 3-4-2 on the season.
The Eagles came out firing and found the net just a minute and a half into the contest. Phillip Hoover scored off an Adam Barnes assist to give the Eagles a quick 1-0 lead.
In the ninth minute, Matt Finley found Tyler Brady who scored to make the score 2-0. The score held as OC recorded its second shutout of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Brian Cochrum played all 90 minutes between the pipes to earn his second shutout as well.
"We're definitely happy with the way we played," OC head coach David Scott said. "The game got a little sloppy at times, but we fought through and were able to get a good result despite the game not being pretty."
The goal was Hoover's first on the year and Brady's third score of 2007.
The Eagles are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 6 as they travel to Siloam Springs, Ark., to take on Sooner Athletic Conference foe John Brown University. The women's game will kick off at 1 p.m. with the men following at 3 p.m.
