Eagles beat OBU 2-1 for fifth-straight

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2007) – Oklahoma Christian improved to 7-4-2 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday night. The win was the Eagles' fifth-straight. OC is now 3-1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

After being named the SAC's Offensive Player of the Week last week, sophomore Cristian Fernandes put the Eagles up 1-0 in the game's eighth minute. The forward was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick. Fernandes fired a low, bounding shot into the left side to give OC the advantage.

Fernandes' netted five goals in OC's last game, a 6-1 win over St. Gregory's. The Brazil-native leads the team with 14 goals.

At the 22:49 point, the Eagles capitalized on a long serve from Jason Frei to Ryan Frampton, who then found Ryan Hudgins for another score to make it 2-0 in favor of OC. The score was the first of Hudgin's college career.

OBU answered at the 38:38 mark, with a connection from Sullivan Silva off an Emerson Rodrigues assist to cut OC's lead to 2-1.

The score held until the halftime break, and ultimately the entire match.

The Eagles out-shot the Bison 5-to-2 in the second half, but neither team found the net. OC Senior goalkeeper Bryan Cochrum snagged three saves on the night to keep OBU at bay.

The victory is a prelude to Saturday night's showdown with first place Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. SNU is 12-0-2 on the season and ranked No. 5 in the NAIA.
